A joint security team comprising operatives of the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA), men of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies have arrested suspected impostors and unauthorised individuals, who impound vehicles illegally.
A statement on Wednesday by the Executive Chairman, OYRTMA, Dr. Akin Fagbemi, said the leader of the group, who paraded themselves as agents of the state government and six others were arrested in Oluyole Local Government during the surveillance team’s covert operation on Tuesday.
Oyo State Government has said it is set to install all-in-one solar powered lights at palaces, hospitals and major markets.
This, it said, would further beef up security in the nooks and crannies and develop infrastructures.
Commissioner for Public Works and Transport Prof. Raphael Afonja, who briefed reporters on Wednesday in Ibadan, said: “With a view to further expand the security network of the state and consolidate on this administration’s recorded achievement in this sector, it has, therefore, become imperative and urgent to provide adequate security through provision of streetlights for our esteemed traditional rulers, who have become targets of kidnappers.”
He added that the initiative was aimed at addressing socio-economic challenges.
