NYC meets stakeholders, set for campaign against bad environmental habits in Kwara.

Nigerian Youth Congress Kwara State branch on Monday met with the Senior Special Assistant on Community Intervention to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Kayode Oyin-Zubair as part of the group’s efforts in waging war against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the state.

The meeting which took place at the Governor’s office complex centered on the need to put a stop to the rising acts of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in gutters and waterways, suggesting massive sensitization and awareness measures to combat the menace.

“Ilorin, the state capital, was adjudged in the past as a clean and safe city. However, in recent times, the reverse is playing out. The recent disaster at Oko-Erin community is a regretted example and other communities in the state are not any better. We need to double efforts on sensitization and awareness programmes to arrest the health and environmental risks improper dumping of refuse may cause immediately, ” said NYC state chairman, Issa Mutolib Ayobami while addressing the Governor’s aides.

Ayobami said his group is set to kick start the awareness drive while soliciting the cooperation of the government to make it a success.

On his part, SSA Intervention Kayode Oyin-Zubair assured the association of the government readiness to aid groups with an interest in social and community development while reiterating the AbdulRazaq- led government’s priority on securing lives and properties of the citizens.

“We are ready to partner stakeholders on public welfare programmes. The ultimate goal is to make life safe and better for our people. With an understanding of the danger in a dirty environment, we are improving on the conduct of monthly environmental sanitation. To build on gains from these efforts, initiatives as this are welcomed, ” remarked the aide.

Other participants at the meeting include the Technical Assistant on Agriculture to the Governor, Mr. AbdulQowiyy Olododo, who reiterated that the government’s doors are opened to the youth for collaborations on viable agricultural initiatives as a means for socio-economic development, NYC Ass. Secretary – Abdullateef AbdulKareem, Social secretary – Kamaldeen Monsuroh Tope, Organizing secretary (Kwara South) – Marufah Muhammed and Mr. Moshood AbdulKadri.

NYC is under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Senior Special Assistant to the President of Youth and Students Affairs and has branches across the nation with a responsibility to drive youths capacity building and leadership reorientation.
