The Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), a youth organization under the supervision of the Presidency and Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, saddled with the responsibility of coordinating and regulating the affairs of all youth associations within the Federal Republic of Nigeria yesterday, the 8th day of August, 2020 inaugurated the Imo State Chapter of the congress in an elaborate ceremony held at the Imo Youth Centre, New Owerri, Imo State.
In a brief speech, the Imo State Chairman of the Nigeria Youth Congress, Mr. Chikezie Oguejiofor heartily welcomed His Excellency, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodimma, the Executive Governor of Imo State, who was ably represented by the Commissioner for Youth & Sports Development, Hon. Daniel Ogu (Hamza), the Senior Special Assistant to the Imo State Governor, Hon. Eric Uwakwe, who is also a Member of the Governing Council of NYC, the National President of the NYC, Blessing A. Akinlosotu, the Chairman of the Governing Council of NYC, Dr. Yakubu Shendam, and Vice President, South East of NYC, Barr. Maxwell Ezelagu and a host of other NYC National Executive Members and State Chairmen of NYC present.
Hon. Daniel Ogu conveyed to the newly inaugurated Imo State executives of NYC goodwill messages of HE Hope Uzodimma, which among other things, included admonishments and charges to be resolute and steadfast in the discharge of duties while pledging and assuring the total support of the Shared Property Government anchored on the 3R mantra of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery in mobilizing for a positive generational change in youth affairs in the state with the NYC as partners in progress.
The National President, Blessing A. Akinlosotu speaking at the event, narrated the history of NYC, her goals and vision which are all centered on empowering young people to take action through community and national service for problem-solving and service to humanity.
Administering the oath of office, Dr. Yakubu Shendam, the Chairman of the Governing Council of NYC, challenged the new executives to take the gospel of NYC down to the grassroots, while eulogizing the State Government on her efforts so far and gallant steps taken, to rewrite the story of road infrastructure in the state by engaging reputable firms.

The NYC is under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Youth and Students Affairs and seeks to empower young people to take action through community and national service, towards creating sustainable solutions to local and national challenges, connecting with the global community to expand professional networks, exchange ideas with leaders, cultivate lifelong friendship around the world, and develop skills to become community, national and global leaders.
