By Emma Elekwa, Onitsha

Wife of Governor of Anambra State, Dr. (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano has donated two houses to two widows, each at Akwaihedi, Nnewi South and Igboukwu in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

She said the donation was informed by the prevailing global coronavirus pandemic which has changed the world system, compelling people to always stay at home.

Speaking during the handing over of the buildings, Obiano regretted that some women in the state could not comfortably stay at home for lack of shelter, arguing that only those with roofs over their heads that could stay at home.

She said, “Since this pandemic started, we have all been rooted to our homes. Unfortunately, there are some of our sisters who cannot stay comfortably because they have no roof over their heads.

“This is why I decided to come out today to ensure that our sisters stay at home and stay safe by handing the keys to two new 2-bedroom bungalows built free by my NGO, CAFE.”

She advised the people of the area to be disciplined and responsible by observing basic hygiene and social distancing.

“This Coronavirus disease is real and can kill if you don’t do simple things like using face mask when leaving your house, washing hands with soap regularly, using sanitizers and avoiding crowded places,” she added.

Assuring quick furnishing of the houses with necessary household furniture and television to ensure the comfort of the beneficiaries, the governor’s wife called the people of the state to assist the less privileged especially during the period of the scourge.

“Don’t wait till you can make it big, do what you can now to help others; no matter how little,” she appealed.

The beneficiaries, Mrs Ifeoma Ogbuanukwu of Umunwehi Village, Akwaihedi and Mrs Monica Okeke of Ezihu village Igboukwu thanked the benefactor for the gesture, describing it as the best gift ever.

The houses were amongst the 27 handed over to the beneficiaries by the governor’s wife under her NGO.
